8-4-08: Set up wing jig in the new home of #3043
Glasair III  # 3043 . . .

I never thought my wife would allow this to happen again!  This time it began with an e-mail.  A gentleman was seeking advice with selling his Glasair III kit.  After several e-mail exchanges and a phone call I was told that I owned another plane.

On July 18, 2008, after about a month of planning, my father-in-law, Steve, and I borrowed a truck and trailer and drove the four-hour drive North to pack up the plane for its ride home.

The reality that I owned another kit didn’t settle in until I had it in the trailer and we were on the ferry back to Seattle. Steve said something like “You own two planes now”.

Wow! I own two planes!

This is kit #3043. It was purchased in 1987 as a System-4 kit and the original owner had only purchased groups 1, 2 and 3.

After unloading it in my shop I spent the next week taking inventory of the parts and paperwork. I found that the three kits are fairly complete. In fact, the only part I can’t find is the fuel stand-pipe mounting ring.

Upgrades include the slotted electric flaps, two Vision Micro Systems capacitance fuel probes with dual gauge, right-side brake parts and all gear upgrades through 1995. The gear upgrades include the down-lock system, emergency activation system (excluding hand pump), late model side braces and gear legs.

These are the photos of #3043 in it's previous home and generally show what was done on the kit:
